On the night of Wednesday, July 2nd, a wildfire broke out approximately four miles south of our Reist Ranch property following a lightning strike. The initial fire burned roughly ¾ of an acre and was first spotted from Highway 101, where an off duty member of CalFire saw smoke rising from the forest.
We responded quickly and believed the fire had been extinguished. However, around 2:00 a.m., flames were once again visible, prompting an emergency response with the help of CAL FIRE and additional support crews.
The response included:
Two hand crews (including incarcerated fire crew members)
Two engines
One helicopter
Six additional firefighters
Thanks to the rapid coordination and dedicated efforts of everyone involved, the fire was contained at 3.5 acres with no injuries and no major damage to land or structures.
We’re incredibly grateful for the professionalism and swift action of CAL FIRE and all the responding teams. Their work not only prevented the fire from spreading further, but also reminded us of the power of collaboration and vigilance in protecting these forests.
To everyone who showed up in the middle of the night to protect this land: thank you.
